Kennedyisms

[As I was getting ready for work one morning]
K: Mom, you don't look very pretty, yet.
M: Oh really? Why do you say that?
K: Because you don't have enough make-up on.

K: Mom- what is your brother's name?
M: Brandon.
K: No. Your other brother.
M: Matt and John.
K: No. Your OTHER brother.
M: ...um...Bryan?...
K: No. Jesus!! Jesus is your brother!
..... Hey, dad?
D: Yes?
K: You're in luck. Jesus is your brother, too!!

Regarding birds

I've never done two posts right in a row. Until now. I'm feeling productive. So here we go for post numero 2 for the day.

Remember how Kennedy and I made a birdhouse? Well, we've made many birds happy. And just like my mother, and her mother before her, I get a little... um... obsessive when I see new birds/flowers and I go to great lengths to figure out what they are. My mother (completely understanding my obsession because it's clearly in the genes) so generously sent me a bird identification book. A nd as much as I have loved it, Kennedy has loved it even more.

Here she is showing me her favorite bird, the Mountain Chickadee. She sat the open book next to her dinner plate and said that the carrots were for her bird to eat.

And do you notice how green the lawn is? We'll see how long it stays that way.

And because it is so beautiful, here is a picture of my wisteria.

Zooing

If you live (or have previously lived) in Utah, you know how fickle spring weather can be. Massive snowstorms in April, 40 degree weather and way too much rain in May. You know - sucky weather. So when we finally have nice days (sunny and 70 degrees), we have to take advantage of them. Zoo, anyone?

Justin had to work that day, so I went with my OTHER family, aka Ashlee and the babies. And we let her husband tag along with us, since we're nice like that.

Aren't these girls so cute?
The answer is yes. Yes, they are.

We saw the adorable new baby elephant, Zuri. Shortly after this next picture was taken, little baby Zuri walked behind the mother and stood directly under her tail. The mother then so lovingly dropped some mother-load-elephant-sized turds on her daughter's head. Kennedy was quite grossed out. Baby elephant didn't seem to mind. But I assured Kennedy I would never do that to her.
We tried to get rid of that disturbing image by taking cute pictures.

The animals were quite playful, that day. It took everything I had to resist the urge to jump over the fence and go cuddle with this giant kitty-cat.

Here's the fam:
And one last picture of Ivy dancing, just because I love these girls.

The Point

Do you remember watching movies/TV shows as a kid and you think "Wow, that show was so great. I would LOVE to see that now!" And you watch it now.... and realize how dreadfully stupid that show actually is? Smurf's was one of those, for me.

One movie that we watched while growing up was called "The Point." We loved that movie and I remember watching it over and over again. I recently bought it for Kennedy, and I thought it would be great to watch it as a family. And, while it was nostalgic for me, Justin (who had never seen it before) was slightly disturbed. As he was watching it, he said "Uh... I think that whoever wrote this show was on acid." And, come to find out, the man who wrote it (Harry Nilsson) was, oddly enough, tripping on acid when the idea of the movie came to him. Good call, Justin.

Well, just as I did when I was young, Kennedy absolutely LOVES this movie. So much, in fact, that she wants to watch it nearly every day. Yesterday I came home and she had drawn a picture of some of the characters:
(The Rockman, Oblio and his dog, Arrow)

Even though this movie brought back so many memories and is still a fun movie to watch, and it has some great music, it really is quite trippy. Don't do drugs, folks.

FAIL.

So I totally failed at updating my blog as soon as I had previously promised. I hereby give you permission to shun me for a while, since I'm such a loser. I'm blaming it on the fact that our laptop got some sort of stupid virus and so it wouldn't work. But it's up and running, now. So here I am. Updating my blog.

Here are some pictures from Easter. It was fun, cold and full of Easter eggs.

Here are some pictures from Seattle. It was even MORE fun. And I want to go back. Possibly permanently.

Kennedy got an aquamarine umbrella. She's in love. The other day she prayed for rain so that she could have a "real" excuse to use it.
We went to the Tulip Festival. 'Twas freezing. And beautiful.

And we visited this cute pig at Pike's Place Market. (She is holding a toy dragon she received in a Happy Meal.)

We also went to a super awesome Children's museum, did lots of shopping, saw a movie, and had an absolute blast. Thanks, mom :)

And finally, the yard. We (meaning Justin) spent quite a few days and cuss words getting the trenches dug and the new sprinkling system put in.

He and his friend put the whole thing in on their own. And it even works.

And then it was ready for the greenery.

Six of these (well, this one is actually 0nly 1/2 full, so really it was like 12 of these) had to be placed in our yard. Three freaking thousand square feet.

After nearly 5 hours of strenuous manual labor, which I don't know that I'm really cut out for, Justin and I put in the instant lawn. Here is the final product of gorgeousness:

And now I will show you the rest of the yard.

Flowering plum:

Feast your eyes upon this beauty (Kwanzan Cherry):

Japanese Maple (I took this picture for you, Craig):

Dirty pond, bench and unfinished firepit:

A birdhouse painted by yours truly and the talented Miss Kennedy (which, btw, has already attracted many adorable little (and big) birdies):

GAWGOUS Wisteria:

And last but not least, a cute little poser on the bench.

We still have so much work to do on the yard. But I think that may have to wait until next year.

For now we will just have some killer BBQ parties. And you're all invited.
