Happy Turkey Day

Yo, yo, yo, whaddup fellow internet usahz? (I'm just trying out various dialects. I don't think that one works for me.)

I want to wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving! I will be eating lots of turkey, stuffing, rolls, stuffing, more stuffing, pie, and an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE (or so I hear) sweet potato casserole (recipe found here), which I will be making, so hopefully it turns out as delectable as it looks. We shall see.

P.S. I will NOT be participating in any ridiculous Black Friday rituals. I have done so in the past (see previous blog entry), and, it was fun and all, but I'm beginning to really savor my few days I have to sleep in. This Friday is one of them. So to all you crazies that will attempt it, I salute you. And I hope you get killer deals. I'll sleep an extra hour in your honor.

P.S.S. I heard somewhere that on Thanksgiving, everything is worth 1/3 as many calories as every other day of the year. I swear it. So eat up.

Movie Review

Movie: Twilight

Plot: Book? Amazing. Movie? Meh. I think that if I hadn't read the books, I wouldn't have been able to understand what the ____ was going on. Lucky for me, I did my homework beforehand. I suggest you do the same.

Characters:

Edward's lack of hotness was too distracting for me. I wanted to flick him in his forehead. Because it wasn't really Edward. Edward is HOT. This guy was NOT. There. I said it. I think if he were a bit more attractive I would have liked the movie better. I mean, let's face it- Edward is 90% of the reason we go see the movie, anyway. So... a bit of a disappointment, there.
Ok, so if we're going to be ogling at jail-bait, anyway, why couldn't they have picked someone a little more pleasing to the eye? Like Zach Efron?

He was probably too busy doing HSM 4 or 5.

Dr. Cullen, however... whoa. I honestly wasn't expecting much from just his pictures, but he was absolute eye candy on the screen. If he were MY doctor, I'd be trying to get sick and break my bones every week.

Bella was great for her part. Just how I'd imagined. No complaints.

Alice? Fantastic. Jasper? So-So. Rosalie and Emmett? Just grand.

Special Effects: Tree jumping. Cool. It was effective at showing beautiful scenery. But did he really ever jump and climb trees in the books? If so, I must have skipped over those parts. Sparkling skin? Meh, again. It looked like someone just sprayed glitter on him.
Overall: It was an entertaining movie. However, they could have done a few things differently- like better character development, less cheesiness, better explanations for things, etc. How? No clue. That's not my job. I work at a law firm. I just like to give my opinion, for whoever wants to hear it.

My rating: B

Should you see it? Sure...if you're bored or if you're obsessed with the books, like myself and 50 gazillion other women right now.

Those of you who HAVE seen it? What did you think?

Kennedy-isms

We had a very windy morning, today, as we were walking to our car:

Kennedy: Whoah! That's a lot of wind! I don't want to get blowed away.
Me: Oh I don't want to get blown away, either, but I don't think the wind is strong enough.
Kennedy: It's ok if you get blowed away, though, mom. You can just walk back.

Kennedy: Mom, can I have a gorilla bar?
Me: Sure, honey. So why do you think it's called a gorilla bar?
Kennedy: Because it has chocolate chips in it.
Me: ...and do those make it look like a gorilla?
Kennedy: Yep.
Me: Oh, I see. I actually think it's called a "granola bar" because it's made out of granola.
Kennedy: Oh. [Pause] Daddy looks like a gorilla.

Me
: Kennedy, you need to finish your pasta.
Kennedy: It's not pasta!! It's MA-CA-RO-NI. You're so silly, mom.

Who's excited?

I'm excited for a few reasons:

A) My mama is coming in town on Saturday.

B) The weather has been, like, perfect, for the past few days.

C) I had a Judge brownie, today, which always delights me.

and

D) This:
Even though, initially, I was a tad disappointed in the character choice for my beloved Edward, I've slowly been getting over it. And I no longer care. It's Edward CULLEN, for heaven's sake. The perfect man. I will soon see him. This weekend.

He will be mine. Oh yes, he will be mine. (2 points awarded to first person to name that movie.)

Back when I was reading the books, neglecting all of my other responsibilities in life, Justin walked in while I was reading a very emotional part of Book #2.

Our conversation:

J: So... are those books any good?
A: Oh, you have NO idea. *sniff*
J: Aren't they about vampires?
A: Yes. And warewolves. *sniff*
J: Huh. Wait.. are you CRYING?
A: Shut up.

I am proud to say that, after much persuasion, he finally picked up the book last night and began reading. Although he didn't really like the fact that I kept asking him what part he was at and if he was liking it, yet....Every 5 minutes.

I am proud of him for reading it. I have graciously awarded him 5 points (he's up to 7, now) for doing so. I'm just hoping that he'll start picking up all of the Edward-like attributes he'll be reading about.

Much thanks

Ok. So apparently we are NOT skipping Thanksgiving, this year. Whew. That's a relief.

And, in light of Thanksgiving, my wonderful Aunt Kristin (aka "Aunt Krissy") made a list of things she was thankful for on her blog, and encouraged her readers to do the same. I am one of those readers, and I obliged. So here I go. Things I am currently thankful for:

Apples and caramel dip. Mmmm. Apples are good, but let's face it, everything is better with a bit of refined sugar.

Fall leaves. I love walking outside to my car and hearing the "crunch" of the leaves (not of the bugs) under my feet.

The internet. (Kristin said this one, but I whole-heartedly agree.) Honestly, how cool is it that you can win a bet for a back massage in, like, 10 seconds, when you're arguing over how to spell "ulterior"? (Yes, I won.)

These pictures:

They are both pictures of Kennedy. And that little blue square with arms and legs? Yeah, that's Spongebob. If you look closely enough you can even see his 2 buck teeth.

My mom. She has always been supportive of everything I've ever wanted to do, and is someone I can be fun and goofy with. I love her.

Shoes. ... ... *sigh* ... ... ... ... Oh, I'm sorry. Where was I? Oh yes. What I'm thankful for.

My piece of crap car. It's a piece of junk. But it's paid for. And it gets me from point A to point B. Slowly. But surely.

The holidays. (Pretty much from Halloween until New Year's.) I love the excitement, the love, family closeness, decorations, smells, sights, sounds...just everything. I'm easy to please.

Justin. Even though he's SO stressed with school, work and band, he still finds time to spend with Kennedy and me. AND he only has 7 months left until he graduates!! (Nursing, for those of you who don't know.)

My job. Trust me, I'd prefer to not HAVE to work. But since I have to, I like where I work and I'm glad I have a job.

Church. Although I complain many Sundays that I'd rather just sleep, or read, or play, or relax, etc., once I actually am there, I usually love it. And so does Kennedy.

Sleep. Need I say more?

Girlfriends. Nothing is better than having a GNO (girl's night out) and just ranting, laughing, eating and reminiscing.

Kennedy. SUCH a happy, funny, smart, beautiful, clever, sweet little 4-year-old. She just lights up my life and keeps me laughing. And stressing. But mostly laughing.

Chocolate. Obviously. And, in case you were wondering, my "wanting to eat healthy" lasted for a whole 2 hours. Will power and I don't go together very well.

Your turn. What are you thankful for?

Loved.

So I'm another year older. Technically, I'm only another DAY older, but whatever. Thank you all for the birthday wishes, cards, and especially to my amazingly fabulous mom for her sweet birthday tribute. (This is sounding an awful lot like an acceptance speech. "I'd like to thank the little people...")

(No, this wasn't my cake. I just saw a picture of this online and it made me laugh.)

Anyway, it was a good day. My friends at work took me out to lunch and Ashlee and the babies made the trip to come see me so we could go get a Judge brownie.

What? You've never heard of a Judge brownie? ...

Ok. They are only the most delectable chocolate creations that you will ever put in your mouth, and they will immediately awaken your gustatory senses. No lie. But I warn you- once you eat one, you can never go back to being satisfied with a mere brownie-mix brownie. The only place you can satisfy this craving is at the Judge Cafe downtown. And yes, I frequent there enough that the cashier knows me by name.

(I was hesitant to put this picture up because these look almost disgusting compared to my sinfully delicious obsession.)

And when I got home from work, Justin took me out to dinner and a movie. It was nice to have a fun birthday date :)

Thanks again for the comments and phone calls! They made me feel oh so loved.

(Although I think the brownie is what made my birthday so spectacular.)

You're it.

I guess that's what you say when you're playing tag, right? Ok. So I've been tagged with this photo thing a few times, and I have nothing else exciting to blog about, since my mind is completely boring to everyone else but me, so I will continue with the "tag."

Fourth picture. I found the 4th picture in my 4th folder in "my pictures." Voila.

This was us at the Ben Folds concert earlier this year. Exciting, huh? If you would like to be tagged, then I hereby tag you.

Ok, I guess I'll add more, since I've deprived you of my comicality for an entire week.

Here are ten random thoughts currently swimming in my mind. Kind of like sperm, except they have no final destination (was that gross? I'm sorry. Sometimes my word vomit is uncontrollable):

1. I've made a commitment to myself, this week, that I'm going to eat "healthy."

2. I'll probably forget that commitment by Wednesday, since this is kind of a weekly routine, for me.

3. I love Ashlee's babies. They are the cuh-yutest things ever.

4. And I also love that they're Ashlee's babies and not mine. I value my sleep too much.

5. I'm so excited for Christmas. It's so much more magical with kids. They're so gullible.

6. Is Thanksgiving even happening this year? I haven't heard anything about it so I think we've nationally eliminated that holiday.

7. Being tired sucks. But it's even worse when it's self-inflicted (staying up way too late reading Twilight, watching Heroes, updating my blog...) because I have no one I can just pass the blame on to. Dang.

8. I want chocolate. And I'm out of chocolate cake mix.

9. Can't we all just get along??

10. I freaking love my daughter. For so many reasons.

Back in business.

We now return to my life.

Don't act so excited.

I give you: The unveiling of the costumes:

Shaggy, Velma and Daphne. All we needed was the Mystery Machine.

On the afternoon of Halloween, Justin...er...Shaggy brought Daphne to my work for a little trick-or-treating around my office and then some scrumptious hot dogs. After that we went to Shaggy's parent's house to trick-or-treat in the neighborhood for more candy, because, let's face it, I like basically anything with sugar, and I'm going to end up eating most of the candy, anyway, so the more the merrier. Kennedy and her cousin, Kaden, aka teen-wolf, anxiously waited at the door to scare the trick-or-treaters. She then decided she'd rather stay with her cousin than go to a boring adult party, to which Justin and I hurried off to. Her loss, for sure.

A few of our friends (most of which were included in that post about my fabulous friends last week) got together for a little Halloween celebration. Here is the cast of characters involved:

The Simpson's.
The Rockband couple (or Kiss).
Some pirates and their baby tiger (Daryl said he was trying to pull some sort of "Arrgh" pirate face. It didn't quite work, imho.)
And a few other costumes that I didn't end up getting pictures of.

And what is a "real" party without a little Rockband? No party I'd ever go to, I'll tell you that right now.(This is how Justin really learned how to play the bass. It's why he's so good.)
Aw, aren't we cute? I sure think so.Thanks for a great party!! Love you girls!

Intermission

While I'm gathering pictures together for my next post regarding my exciting life, here is something for you to think about:
