When life gives you lemons.... or snow....

Remember when we were little and loved the snow? When we were so excited to go make snow angels, snowmen, have snowball fights, go skiing, snowboarding or sledding? And now it snows and all I can think about is how much longer I'm going to have to enter my car through the passenger door because the driver's side door is frozen shut. And how snowboarding is too expensive, and even if I went, I'd probably break something.

More reasons I no longer like winter:

I don't like shoveling the sidewalks.
I don't like freezing my butt off.
I don't like having my car door frozen shut.
I don't like that there are no blooming flowers.
I don't like the stupid Utah inversion.
and I don't like the fact that it gets dark at 6:00 pm.

However, my wonderful daughter was SO excited when it snowed the other day- we probably had over a foot in our yard. I figured that we better put her snowbib to use, since it has just been hanging in her closet for 4 months (from the day we bought it).

We made a snowman. (That's our little dog, Harley, in the background. She barked at the birds for a while, then tried to eat our snowman.)

This was NOT good snowman snow. It was too powder-y. It took us a lot longer than I remember it taking when I was younger...

I have no clue how kids don't seem to notice that their hands are totally frozen while they're playing in the snow. I was tempted to just bag it at this point and go inside since I was so cold.
She was so proud. Of course all she really did was take some snow and sprinkle it on the snowman I was making.
The masterpiece: (she named him Frosty. Not my first choice, but whatever)

I know, he needs a carrot. We were all out of them and of course our boy neighbors don't eat healthy enough to keep carrots around the house for us to borrow.

I DO like playing with my daughter in the snow. :)

Heath Ledger- you will be missed

I got online to check my e-mail this afternoon, like I normally do, and the headline for the news read "Heath Ledger Dies at 28." It took a second for it to sink in... he was one of my favorite actors. Investigators are thinking that he died of a drug overdose (I hate that Hollywood has that effect on some people). It's really sad how often this happens.

Look how handsome he is:

Heath Ledger has been one of my favorite actors since I saw him in "10 Things I Hate About You," (1999) and I liked him even more in "A Knight's Tale." He was amazing in "The Patriot" and "Lords of Dogtown" (although he was a little crazy). I never saw "Brokeback Mountain," but I don't doubt he was incredible in that as well, especially since he won some awards for it. He is going to be the Joker in the new Batman movie "The Dark Knight," which we have been anxiously anticipating.
So sad...

Not only was he an incredible actor, he was also incredibly good-looking and had a very sexy Australian accent.
Goodbye, my Aussie Heath!

Revolutionized Grocery Shopping!

I don't know if this is going to make my shopping experience more "fun," but probably a little more interesting. I was listening to the radio the other day and they started talking about shopping carts- that Microsoft has made a cart that actually has a computer on it. The computer does a few interesting things:

- You can scan your items as you put them in the cart so it will tell you how much your total is before you get to the check-out line.

- It has a little "GPS" type locator on it so it knows where you are in the store and it will tell you the different sales going on in that aisle.

- It keeps a grocery list on there for you- before you go to the store, you can get online and put your grocery list on some website, and when you get to the store and get your shopping cart, you can put in some username/password and it will pull up your grocery list AND as you scan your items it checks them off the list for you. GOOD for me since I usually either (a) forget to bring my list or (b) get WAY more items than I was planning on because I don't really look at my list.

The big reason for them doing this, of course, is advertising- so you'll get to see tons of advertisements, which we all LOVE. But I don't know- it seems like a pretty good idea. Check out their website here: http://www.mediacart.com/

How will this affect the homeless people and thier shopping carts?...

Party hardy

We live in a basement apartment. When we first moved in, we found out that 4 college boys lived in the upstairs portion of the house, which would have been exciting if I were a few years younger and single. But anyway, at first we were somewhat skeptical, since we thought they would have many parties and would be very obnoxious. Turns out, we were right on the first account, wrong on the second. Well, I shouldn't say "many" parties... they only really have people over for birthdays and holidays and such. The good thing is, we've become really good friends with them and they invite us up to play. :)

The other night was one of the guys' birthdays- so we went up for a surprise party. I rarely take my camera with me (I can see my mom cringing as she reads that part), but luckily one of the guys at the party had one he took a LOT of pictures... and I stole them from his website. :) So... here are a few pictures from the party:

Shay, Me & Melanie

These are some of the upstairs boys- I guess we
were trying to fly off the couch.

I have no clue what I was doing here. But it's a lovely picture, don't you think?

Taylor & Justin

We were doing the Robot. To Britney Spears music.

Uh... ya. Don't ask.

Cheers!

Everybody was Kung-fu fighting! Ha! (well, at least I was)

Since Kennedy wasn't at the party, here's a picture of her in case you forgot how cute she is:
